What does this fault code mean?
The ECM compares pressure readings from each side of the particle trap and checks that the pressure sensor signal matches a calculated value. The code is stored when the trap is blocked or clogged with soot, so the pressure rises above what is expected. Soot builds up over time, so the fault can come back.
Possible causes
- Blocked particle trap
- Faults in other engine functions that can produce the same code
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the ECM and in other modules, such as the additive dosing module (ADM). Other faults can cause this code, so correct them first
- 2Check the connector to the particle trap pressure sensor for oxidation and loose connections
- 3With a diagnostic tool, compare the pressure value in live data with the engine off and at idle. An unusually high value at idle points to a blocked trap
- 4Drive a longer stretch at a steady speed so that the soot can burn off, then clear the code and road test
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the particle trap and the pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- The check engine light comes on
- Poor performance, the car lacks power
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque may be limited
