What does this fault code mean?
The fault applies to the heating of the front oxygen sensor on bank 1. The engine control module (ECM) pulses the current to the sensor heating element and checks the signal. The code is stored when the signal reads over a set threshold with the heating active.
Possible causes
- Signal cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged front heated oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it comes back
- 2Check the oxygen sensor connector for oxidation and loose connections. Do not use rust solvent spray or grease in it
- 3If possible, take readings from the cable side of the connector so you do not damage it or create a loose contact later
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable is not short-circuited to supply voltage, meaning plus on the car
- 5If the cables are intact but the fault remains, have a workshop try a new oxygen sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
What the fault can affect2
- Oxygen sensor control is switched off
- Fuel trim control based on the oxygen sensor is switched off
