What does this fault code mean?

The ECM compares pressure readings from each side of the particle filter and checks that the pressure sensor signal follows a calculated value. The code is stored when the signal is too low. The fault can lie in the sensor, its connections or the wiring, and it can reduce engine performance.

    Possible causes

    • Contact resistance or oxidation at the connections
    • Short circuit to ground in the signal cable
    • Short circuit to ground in the supply cable to the sensor
    • Damaged particle filter pressure sensor

    What you can do

    1. 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
    2. 2Check the connector to the particle filter pressure sensor for oxidation and loose connections
    3. 3Follow the signal and supply cables from the pressure sensor and look for chafing and pinch damage, especially where they may have touched the body
    4. 4Use a multimeter to check that the cables are not short-circuited to ground, meaning the car body
    5. 5If the cables are intact, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the pressure sensor and the particle filter

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • The check engine light comes on
    • Poor performance, the car lacks power

    What the fault can affect1

    • The engine may go into limp-home mode

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
