What does this fault code mean?
The ECM compares pressure readings from each side of the particle filter and checks that the sensor signal follows a calculated value. If the signal is missing altogether, the code is stored. The cause can be a poor connection, an open circuit in the wiring or a damaged pressure sensor.
Possible causes
- Loose connections, contact resistance or oxidation at the terminals
- Open circuit in the supply cable to the sensor
- Open circuit in the ground lead
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- Damaged particle filter pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Look at the terminals on the pressure sensor and make sure they are fully seated, not loose and clean
- 3Follow the supply, ground and signal leads from the sensor and look for breaks, chafing and pinch damage
- 4Use a multimeter to check that each lead is continuous all the way between the sensor and the control module, with no break
- 5If the leads are intact, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- The check engine light comes on
- Poor performance, the car lacks power
What the fault can affect1
- Engine output and speed may be limited
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
