What does this fault code mean?

The code applies when the signal cables to the front oxygen sensor on bank 1 are short-circuited to supply voltage. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the cables and stores the code when it detects the short circuit, so the sensor signal reads too high.

    Possible causes

    • Short circuit in the signal cables
    • Damaged front heated oxygen sensor

    What you can do

    1. 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
    2. 2Check the sensor connector for oxidation and loose connections. Rust solvent spray and grease must not be used on it
    3. 3Follow the signal cables from the oxygen sensor and look for chafing, pinch damage and places where a cable may have touched live voltage
    4. 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal cables are not short-circuited to supply voltage, meaning plus on the car
    5. 5If the cables are intact but the fault remains, have a workshop try a new oxygen sensor

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
