What does this fault code mean?
The code applies when the signal cables to the front oxygen sensor on bank 1 are short-circuited to ground. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the cables and stores the code when it detects the short circuit, so the sensor signal reads too low.
Possible causes
- Short circuit in the signal cables
- Damaged front heated oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, note it, clear it and road test
- 2Look at the sensor connector for corrosion or looseness. Rust solvent spray and grease must not be used on it
- 3Follow the signal cables from the sensor and look for chafing, pinch damage and places where a cable may have touched the body
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal cables are not short-circuited to ground, meaning the car body
- 5If the cables are intact but the fault remains, have a workshop try a new oxygen sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
