What does this fault code mean?
The code indicates an open circuit in the signal cable from the front oxygen sensor on bank 1 to the sensing element that reads how much oxygen is in the exhaust. The engine control module (ECM) then receives no usable signal from the sensor and stores the code.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or corrosion on the signal cable
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- Damaged front heated oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it comes back
- 2Make sure the sensor connector is fully engaged and clean, and look for oxidation. Do not use rust solvent spray or grease in it
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable has no open circuit between the sensor and the control module
- 4If possible, measure from the back of the connector so it is not damaged and does not become a loose contact
- 5If the cable and connector are intact, have a workshop try a new oxygen sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
