What does this fault code mean?
The ECM watches the fuel pressure sensor and stores the code if its signal is too high or too low. This fault concerns a signal that is too low, which can come from a poor connection or a short to ground in the signal cable.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Signal cable short-circuited to ground
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check the fuel pressure sensor connector for contact resistance, oxidation and open circuit
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: look at the fuel pressure sensor value in live data with the engine idling, and see whether it is unreasonably low
- 4Follow the signal cable from the fuel pressure sensor and look for chafing and places where it may have touched the body
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable is not short-circuited to ground, meaning the car body, and has no open circuit
- 6If the wiring is intact, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check and, if needed, replace the fuel pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice3
- A message appears in the display
- Poor performance, the engine runs badly
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses a calculated value for the fuel pressure instead
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
