What does this fault code mean?
The ECM reads fuel pressure in the rail. If the pressure is too high, the code is set. Causes can be air in the fuel, a blocked return line, or a damaged sensor or valve.
Possible causes
- The car has run with an empty tank
- Air in the fuel
- Blockage in the fuel return line
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor
- Damaged fuel pressure control valve
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Think about whether the car has recently been run on a low fuel level, since air can then enter the fuel system
- 3Look for fuel leaks in the fuel lines between the tank and the engine, since air in the fuel can come from there
- 4Check the plugs of the pressure sensor and the pressure control valve for contact resistance and oxidation
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the fuel pressure control valve and check that the fuel pressure in live data rises
- 6Have a workshop check the return line and the sensors, and replace any faulty parts
Symptoms you may notice2
- Noise from the engine, especially at idle
- The engine jerks
