What does this fault code mean?

The ECM reads fuel pressure in the rail. If the pressure is too high and the fault is active, the module reduces the fuel supply. Causes can be air in the fuel, a blocked return line, or a damaged sensor or valve.

    Possible causes

    • The car has run with an empty tank
    • Air in the fuel
    • Blockage in the fuel return line
    • Damaged fuel pressure sensor
    • Damaged fuel pressure control valve

    What you can do

    1. 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
    2. 2Look for fuel leaks in the fuel lines between the tank and the engine, since air in the fuel can come from there
    3. 3Check the plugs of the pressure control valve and the pressure sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
    4. 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the fuel pressure control valve and check that the fuel pressure in live data rises
    5. 5Have a workshop check the return line and the pressure sensor, and once the fault is fixed also replace the pressure safety valve, since high pressure may have damaged it

    Symptoms you may notice4

    • Noise from the engine, especially at idle
    • The engine jerks
    • The engine feels sluggish
    • Engine speed is limited

    What the fault can affect1

    • Fuel supply is reduced for as long as the fault is active

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
