What does this fault code mean?
The ECM reads fuel pressure in the rail. If the pressure is too low for the signal sent to the fuel pressure control valve, the code is set. Causes include air in the fuel, leaks or a blocked filter, or a damaged pump, sensor or valve.
Possible causes
- The car has run with an empty tank
- Air in the fuel
- Blockage or leakage in the fuel supply
- Blocked fuel filter
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor or control valve
- Faulty pressure safety valve or damaged fuel pump
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Think about whether the car has recently been run on an empty tank, since air can then enter the fuel system
- 3Look for fuel leaks in the fuel lines and check that nothing leaks after the fuel pump
- 4Make sure the fuel filter is not blocked and that the plugs of the pressure sensor and the pressure control valve are clean and firmly attached
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fuel pressure sensor value in live data at idle and see how it changes when you activate the fuel pressure control valve
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the fuel pump, the pressure safety valve and the fuel pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice3
- The engine fails to start
- The engine cuts out
- The engine starts and dies immediately
What the fault can affect1
- Fuel supply is shut off for as long as the fault is active
