What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the fuel pressure in the rail with the desired value. If the pressure goes above that value, the code is set. The cause may be a blocked return line or a damaged sensor or valve.
Possible causes
- Blockage in the fuel return line
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor
- Damaged fuel pressure control valve
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Make sure the fuel return line is not blocked, for example by kinks or pinching
- 3Check the plugs of the pressure sensor and the pressure control valve for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the fuel pressure control valve and check that the fuel pressure in live data rises when it is activated
- 5Have a workshop check the return line and the pressure sensor, and replace the fuel pressure control valve if needed
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine feels sluggish
- Engine speed is limited
What the fault can affect1
- Fuel supply is reduced for as long as the fault is active
