What does this fault code mean?
The ECM checks the fuel pressure in the rail and compares it with the signal sent to the fuel pressure control valve. If the pressure is too low for that signal, the code is set. The cause may be a clogged filter, a leak, or a damaged pump, control valve or safety valve.
Possible causes
- Clogged fuel filter
- Blockage or leakage in the fuel supply
- Damaged pressure safety valve
- Damaged fuel pressure control valve
- Damaged fuel pump
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test to see whether it comes back
- 2Find out when the fuel filter was last changed, since a clogged filter can cause low pressure
- 3Check for leaks in the fuel system, such as wet patches under the car or a smell of fuel after the injection pump
- 4Make sure the connectors to the fuel pressure control valve and the fuel pressure sensor are clean and firmly seated
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fuel pressure sensor value in live data and see whether it follows the activation of the fuel pressure control valve
- 6If nothing else is found, have a workshop check the fuel pump and the pressure safety valve
Symptoms you may notice3
- The engine does not start
- The engine cuts out
- The engine starts and dies immediately
What the fault can affect1
- Fuel supply may be cut off completely for as long as the fault is active
