What does this fault code mean?
The ECM receives information from the front oxygen sensor about the mixture at varying loads. The code is stored when the mixture drifts so far from target that the long-term fuel trim reaches its lower end-stop, which means the engine runs too rich.
Possible causes
- High fuel pressure
- Leaking injectors
- Leaking evaporative emission system or damaged EVAP valve
- Contaminated engine oil or oil level too high
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check the dipstick: the oil should sit between its minimum and maximum marks, and smell the oil to see whether it smells of petrol
- 3Look at the hoses between the EVAP valve and the canister for damage and loose connections
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: look at the fuel trim adaptation values in live data and see which range deviates most
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the fuel pressure, the injectors and the EVAP system

- Poor performance, the car lacks power
