What does this fault code mean?
At certain operating modes, with the engine warm, the engine control module (ECM) regulates fuel pressure using the fuel flow control valve. If the pressure in the fuel system is too high compared with what the ECM expects, the code is set. The fault may be caused by air in the lines or by a component that does not receive the correct voltage.
Possible causes
- Air in the fuel lines
- The fuel flow control valve has no voltage supply
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor
- Damaged fuel flow control valve
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuel pressure sensor connector is secure and free from oxidation and contact resistance
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the fuel flow control valve is not open circuit
- 4Think about whether any work has recently been done on the fuel system, since air can enter the lines when it is opened
- 5With diagnostic equipment, follow the fuel pressure sensor's live data with the engine warm and see whether the value keeps up when you accelerate
- 6Have a workshop check the voltage supply to the fuel flow control valve and replace the valve if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice2
- Message in the display
- The engine knocks
What the fault can affect1
- The engine control module works out a fuel pressure value instead
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
