What does this fault code mean?
The vacuum actuator on the turbocharger has a built-in position sensor that tells the engine control module (ECM) where the actuator is. If the sensor gives too low a signal, the ECM treats it as a fault and the code is set.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- The signal wire is broken or shorted to ground
- The supply wire to the position sensor is broken or shorted to ground
- Damaged position sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connector to the position sensor on the vacuum actuator is secure and free from oxidation and contact resistance
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal and supply wires to the position sensor are not broken or shorted to ground
- 4With diagnostic equipment, read the position sensor value with the ignition on and check that it is stable
- 5Have a workshop replace or check the position sensor if the connectors and wiring are intact
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp (Check engine) lights up or behaves abnormally
