What does this fault code mean?
The turbocharger vacuum actuator has a built-in position sensor, and the engine control module (ECM) compares its signal with the value it should have. If the signal is too high, the ECM treats it as a fault and the code is set.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Supply wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged position sensor
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and road test the car, then check whether it returns
- 2Check that the connector at the position sensor is secure and free from moisture and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the position sensor are not in contact with live wiring
- 4With diagnostic equipment, read the sensor value with the ignition on and see whether it sits above its normal range
- 5Have a workshop check the position sensor and the wiring if the fault returns
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp (Check engine) lights up or behaves abnormally
