What does this fault code mean?
In some operating modes with a warm engine, fuel pressure is controlled by the fuel flow control valve. If the pressure is too low in such a mode and the ECM detects it, the code is set. The fault can have many causes in the fuel system, from leaks and air to a clogged filter or damaged components.
Possible causes
- Leak in the fuel system
- Air in the fuel lines
- Clogged fuel filter
- Faulty tank pump
- Faulty fuel pressure control valve
- Faulty injector
What you can do
- 1Read and act on any fault codes for the tank pump first, then clear the code and road test the car
- 2Look for leaks in the fuel system, such as damp connections or a smell of fuel in the engine bay
- 3Check whether the fuel filter is clogged, and replace it if you are unsure of its condition
- 4Check the connectors at the fuel pressure sensor and the fuel pressure control valve for contact resistance, oxidation and looseness
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the fuel pressure sensor is not broken
- 6Have a workshop check the injectors and the fuel flow control valve if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- The ECM selects a calculated value instead of the measured signal
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
