What does this fault code mean?
In certain operating modes, including when the engine is cold, fuel pressure is controlled only by the fuel pressure control valve. If the pressure is too high in such a mode, the code is set. The fault may lie in the sensor or the valve, or the valve may not be receiving its supply voltage.
Possible causes
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor
- The fuel pressure control valve has no supply voltage
- Damaged fuel pressure control valve
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connectors at the fuel pressure sensor and the fuel pressure control valve for looseness, oxidation and contact resistance
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the fuel pressure control valve is not open circuit
- 4Think about whether anything has recently been done to the fuel system or its connectors, and check that everything is seated correctly
- 5With diagnostic equipment, read the fuel pressure sensor's live data when the engine is cold and again once it is warm
- 6Have a workshop check the supply voltage to the fuel pressure control valve if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice2
- Message in the information display
- Reduced performance
What the fault can affect1
- The engine control module uses a calculated fuel pressure value instead of the sensor's reading
