What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the reading from the fuel pressure sensor. If it registers that the signal is too low, the code is set. The fault may be a signal wire shorted to ground, an open circuit, poor contact or a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is shorted to ground
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Poor contact at the connectors, with resistance or oxidation
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Clear the code, road test the car and see whether it returns
- 2With diagnostic equipment, read the code's fault status after the test drive to see whether the fault is still present
- 3Check the connectors at the control module and the fuel pressure sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire between the control module and the fuel pressure sensor has no open circuit and is not shorted to ground
- 5Have a workshop replace the fuel pressure sensor if the connectors and wiring are intact
Symptoms you may notice5
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on
- The engine misfires
- Poor performance and lack of power, especially when pulling away from a standstill
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly during acceleration or deceleration
- The engine is hard to start or does not start
What the fault can affect2
- The fuel pressure is held at a fixed value
- The signal sent to the fuel pump control module is replaced by a calculated value
