What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the control signal that goes to the fuel pump control module. If it registers a fault in that signal, the code is set. The fault may be a result of electrical faults in the fuel pump supply or its wiring.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or loose contact in connectors and connections
- Signal wire between the ECM and the pump control module shorted to ground
- Open circuit in the signal wire between the ECM and the pump control module
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM) first, since this code may be a follow-on fault from electrical faults in the fuel pump supply
- 2Check the fuse and relay for the fuel pump control module and the fuel pump
- 3Check the earth point for the fuel pump control module and the fuel pump
- 4Check the connectors at the fuel pump control module for poor contact and oxidation
- 5Have a workshop check the fuel pump and its control module if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice5
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on
- Poor performance and the engine lacks power, especially when pulling away from a standstill
- The engine hesitates or surges during acceleration or deceleration
- The engine stalls, including at idle
- The engine is hard to start or does not start
