What does this fault code mean?
At part load the engine control module (ECM) adjusts the fuel quantity based on the oxygen sensor, and the long-term correction should sit in the middle of its range. When it nearly reaches its upper limit in both the low and high part-load ranges, meaning the mixture is too lean, the code is set.
Possible causes
- Ethanol content in the fuel is too high
- Leakage in the exhaust system draws in air
- Fuel pressure is too low
- The oxygen sensor is damaged
What you can do
- 1Think about whether the car has recently been refuelled with the wrong fuel, and only fill it with petrol as the car's instructions specify
- 2If you are unsure what fuel is in the tank, have a workshop measure its ethanol content
- 3Look for leaks in the exhaust system, especially at the joints, and have a workshop check the fuel pressure
- 4Have a workshop replace the oxygen sensor if the fault remains after these checks
Symptoms you may notice1
