ECM-271A
VOLVO
ECM-271A - Adaptive lambda control, bank 2 .Bottom limit
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (1999–2006), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The long-term correction for bank 2 sets how much fuel the ECM adds based on the oxygen sensor. When it reaches its lower limit, the mixture is too rich and the ECM has reduced the fuel as far as it is allowed.
Possible causes
- Fuel pressure is too high
- Injectors that leak
- Faulty mass air flow sensor
- Contaminated engine oil
- Oil level is too high
What you can do
- 1Look at the oil level on the dipstick. It should sit between the marks and the oil should not feel diluted
- 2Have a workshop measure the fuel pressure and check the injectors, since high pressure and leakage give a rich mixture
- 3Have a workshop check the mass air flow sensor, since a defective sensor can give the wrong fuel quantity
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment, read the bank 2 long-term correction with the engine running and see whether the value is steady
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
