What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the signal sent to the oxygen sensor's preheating, which the control module finds to be incorrect. The code can also be set if the sensor has been overheated. Causes may include a short circuit in the signal wire, poor contact or a break in the ground wire.
Possible causes
- Signal cable shorted to supply voltage
- Signal cable shorted to ground
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the terminals
- Break in the ground lead
- Overheated oxygen sensor
- Damaged oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and drive for a while to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the sensor connector is secure and free from play, oxidation and contact resistance
- 3If the code appeared after the oxygen sensor had been very hot, the sensor may have overheated, so have a workshop assess it
- 4With the car switched off, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not shorted to ground or voltage
