What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named signal missing, it is set when the measured fuel pressure pulses too much. The engine control module controls the pressure through the fuel pump control module. The fault can be noticed while the engine runs and while it idles.
Possible causes
- Air in the fuel lines
- Blocked fuel lines
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor
- Damaged fuel pump
- Damaged fuel pump control module
What you can do
- 1Start with the codes: if codes are stored for the fuel pressure sensor or the atmospheric pressure sensor, deal with them first
- 2Make sure there is enough fuel in the tank, since uneven fuel supply can make the pressure pulse
- 3Check the fuel lines for air and leaks, and make sure the filter is not clogged
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: check the relative fuel pressure in live data at idle and see whether it pulses or stays steady
- 5If no fault is found, have a workshop try a new fuel pump and, if needed, a new fuel pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice5
- Engine lacks power, especially when moving off from standstill
- Engine may stall at any time
- Engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly under acceleration and when slowing down
- Engine is hard to start or does not start at all
- Check engine lamp (Malfunction Indicator Light) comes on or behaves abnormally
