What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module controls the fuel pressure through the fuel pump control module. The fault is stored when the measured pressure rises too high compared with the requested pressure for a certain time, and the cause may lie in the pressure sensor, the pump control module or the pump.
Possible causes
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor
- Damaged fuel pump control module
- Damaged fuel pump
What you can do
- 1Read the codes first; stored faults on the pressure sensors should be dealt with before anything else
- 2Check the connectors that join the pump control unit to the pump for resistance and oxide
- 3Check the connector at the fuel pressure sensor, which should be secure and clean
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the relative fuel pressure in live data with the engine warm and idling, and see how it changes when you rev the engine
- 5If no fault is found, have a workshop try a new pump control unit
Symptoms you may notice5
- Reduced engine performance
- Engine may stall at any time
- Engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly under acceleration
- Engine starts poorly or does not start at all
- Check engine lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
