What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module reads the fuel temperature sensor, which sits inside the fuel pressure sensor. The code is set when that signal is judged incorrect. The cause may be a short in the signal wire, an open signal or ground wire, poor contact or a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Break in the signal wire or in the signal ground wire
- Damaged fuel temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and drive for a while to see whether it returns
- 2Switch off the ignition and check the connector at the fuel pressure sensor, which also carries the temperature sensor: it should be secure and clean
- 3With the car switched off, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not broken and has no contact with voltage or ground
- 4Check that the ground wire is not broken
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fuel temperature in live data with the engine running and see whether the value is sensible and changes as the engine warms up
- 6If the connector and wiring are in order but the fault remains, have a workshop continue the fault tracing and replace the sensor if needed
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
