What does this fault code mean?
The aging check on the rear oxygen sensor has found a signal that is too high. The fault is intermittent, meaning it has occurred at some point but may not be present now. The cause may be a leak in the exhaust system or a defective sensor.
Possible causes
- Leakage in the exhaust system
- Defective rear oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and drive for a while to see whether it returns
- 2Check the exhaust for air leaks, for example at joints and around the oxygen sensors
- 3If no leak is found but the fault returns, have a workshop check the rear oxygen sensor with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
What the fault can affect2
- Twin oxygen sensor control is switched off
- Catalytic converter diagnostics are switched off
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
