What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has registered that the signal from the fuel temperature sensor is too low. At start-up the module compares the fuel temperature with the intake air and engine temperatures, and the fuel temperature reading is too low compared with the others. The fault code concerns the signal from the sensor.
Possible causes
- Damaged fuel temperature sensor
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector at the fuel temperature sensor for loose connections, corrosion and contact resistance
- 3Read the fuel, intake and engine temperatures in live data right at start-up. If the fuel temperature differs clearly from the others, the sensor or its connector is the likely cause
- 4The sensor is built into the fuel pressure sensor. If the fault remains, have a workshop check or replace it
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator light (MIL) is on
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses a fixed predefined value for fuel temperature
