What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) calculates how much soot is in the particulate trap and monitors the pressure difference before and after the trap. The fault code is set when the soot quantity is too high, meaning the trap is clogged.
Possible causes
- Clogged particulate trap
- Damaged pressure sensor for the particulate trap
What you can do
- 1Read and note other fault codes in the module and trace those first, as this code can be caused by faults in other parts of the engine
- 2Check that the intake system is airtight and undamaged
- 3Check that the hoses and pipes to the particulate trap pressure sensor are not damaged or leaking
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the pressure difference across the particulate trap in live data with the engine at idle. A clearly high value suggests the trap is blocked
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment assess the soot level and decide whether the trap can be cleaned or must be replaced
Symptoms you may notice2
- Poor performance
- The malfunction indicator light (MIL) comes on
What the fault can affect1
- Engine output and engine speed are limited
