What does this fault code mean?
The ECM keeps watch on exhaust gas temperature. The fault code is set when the signal from the temperature sensor upstream of the particulate trap is faulty, which can be caused by a short circuit, an open circuit or poor contact in the sensor wiring, or by a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in the connections
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Damaged temperature sensor for the particulate trap
What you can do
- 1Check the connector at the temperature sensor for loose contact, contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the sensor has no contact with the body (ground)
- 3Check that the wiring to the sensor has no open circuit, and gently move it while measuring
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the sensor temperature in live data with the engine warm and see whether it differs clearly from what you expect
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop measure the sensor resistance and check the wiring
Symptoms you may notice1
- A message appears in the information display
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses a calculated value for the temperature
