Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (1999–2006), XC90 (2003–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the circuit to the injector for cylinder 1. The fault code is set when the signal is missing in that circuit, and the engine may then not run on all cylinders.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal wire to the injector
- Open circuit in the power supply to the injector
- Damaged injector
- Damaged mass air flow (MAF) sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector at the injector for cylinder 1 for contact resistance and loose connections
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the injector for cylinder 1 has no open circuit
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the injector for cylinder 1 with ignition on and the engine off, and listen for a clear click
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the injector and the mass air flow sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is on
- The engine is not running on all cylinders
