What does this fault code mean?
The injector for cylinder 5 has a signal that is too high. The signal wire may have been shorted to supply voltage, or the injector may be damaged.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged injector
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check the signal wire to cylinder 5 for chafing and damage, especially where it could have touched a supply source
- 3With ignition on, use a multimeter to check that the cylinder 5 wire is not shorted to supply voltage
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: see in live data whether the cylinder 5 signal is clearly higher than the other cylinders
- 5If the wire is intact, have a workshop test the cylinder 5 injector
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is on
- The engine is not running on all cylinders
