What does this fault code mean?
The control module receives no signal from the exhaust camshaft position sensor, or it receives too few signal changes over a few crankshaft revolutions. The fault is checked while the starter motor turns. The most common cause is an open circuit in the signal wire. A short to ground or supply voltage in the same wire, or a damaged camshaft position sensor, can also cause the code.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged camshaft position sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the fault status of the camshaft position sensor with the engine running: Fault found means the fault is still present, No fault detected means it was intermittent
- 2Check that the camshaft position sensor connector is secure and free from corrosion and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with ground or supply voltage and is not broken
- 4Check that the camshaft position sensor is firmly fitted in the correct position with no damage to the sensor
- 5If the fault remains with intact wiring: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses the engine speed sensor signal instead
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
