What does this fault code mean?
Under certain operating conditions the control module monitors the rear knock sensor signal. If the signal is too high, the code is stored, and it can be checked while the engine runs. An engine noise or a sensor that has been fitted incorrectly can cause the signal to become too strong.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Noise from the engine
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Incorrectly installed knock sensor
- Damaged temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the rear knock sensor is firmly fitted and tightened correctly
- 2Start the engine and listen for noise, since this can cause a signal that is too high
- 3Read and clear the fault code, run the engine and check whether it returns
- 4Follow the signal wire from the rear knock sensor and look for chafing or a short to the battery positive lead
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the ground wire has no contact with supply voltage
- 6Have a workshop check the knock sensor if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice1
- Poor performance
What the fault can affect2
- Ignition advance is pulled back to protect the engine
- Boost pressure is reduced
