What does this fault code mean?
This fault is registered as intermittent, meaning the control module has at some point found the wrong number of teeth on the flywheel or trigger plate but no longer finds the fault. The cause may be a temporary break in the wiring or a splice, poor contact, or damage to the flywheel or trigger plate. A defective engine speed sensor or camshaft position sensor can also cause the code.
Possible causes
- Temporary open circuit in the wiring or a splice
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Damage to the flywheel or carrier plate
- Defective engine speed sensor
- Defective camshaft position sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the fault status: No fault detected confirms that the fault is no longer present
- 2With the ignition off, check that the sensor connector is firmly seated and free from oxidation
- 3Look for chafing and loose splices in the wiring from the engine speed sensor
- 4Check the carrier plate on the crankshaft for damage
- 5Have a workshop check the engine speed sensor and the camshaft position sensor if the fault returns
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses the camshaft position sensor signal if it is working
