What does this fault code mean?
The engine has misfired on several cylinders in a way that affects the exhaust emissions. The control module stores the code when it detects this, together with another fault code that shows which cylinders are misfiring. The fault is checked while the engine runs, and the causes lie in the fuel system, the intake or the ignition.
Possible causes
- Low fuel level
- Engine never reaches full operating temperature across repeated cold starts
- Contaminated or incorrect fuel, for example summer fuel in winter
- Air leakage
- Blocked or leaking injector
- Faulty fuel pressure
What you can do
- 1First investigate the other fault codes that affect camshaft control or the camshaft reset valve
- 2Check the fuel level in the tank and that the engine oil level is correct
- 3Check that the fuel suits the season and that the tank is not contaminated
- 4Check the intake system for leaks and the crankcase ventilation for blockages
- 5Check the spark plugs and for moisture in the spark plug wells
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the fuel pressure and the engine compression
Symptoms you may notice5
- Engine warning lamp lit
- The engine misfires
- The engine is difficult to start
- Uneven idle
- Poor performance
What the fault can affect3
- Catalytic converter diagnosis is switched off
- Leak diagnosis is switched off
- Lambda control is switched off
