What does this fault code mean?
Cylinder four has misfired in a way that can damage the catalytic converter, and this was detected during the first revolutions after starting. The code indicates cylinder four. The fault should be corrected soon so that the catalytic converter is not damaged.
Possible causes
- Contaminated or incorrect fuel
- Poor fuel quality, for example summer fuel in winter
- Air leakage
- Blocked crankcase ventilation
- Faulty fuel pressure
- Uneven compression
What you can do
- 1First investigate the other fault codes that affect camshaft control or the camshaft reset valve
- 2Check the fuel level and that the engine oil level is correct
- 3Check that the fuel suits the season and that the tank is not contaminated
- 4Check the spark plug on cylinder four
- 5Check the intake for leaks and the crankcase ventilation for blockages
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the fuel pressure and the compression on cylinder four
Symptoms you may notice4
- Engine warning lamp lit
- The engine misfires
- Poor performance
- The engine runs roughly on one cylinder
What the fault can affect2
- Catalytic converter diagnosis is switched off
- Lambda control is switched off
