What does this fault code mean?
Misfires on cylinder four during the first revolutions after starting affect the exhaust emissions. The code indicates that cylinder four is the one misfiring, and it can be checked while the engine runs. The causes lie in the fuel system, the intake or the ignition.
Possible causes
- Blocked or leaking injector
- Uneven compression
- Faulty fuel pressure
- Air leakage
- Contaminated or incorrect fuel
- Engine never reaches full operating temperature across repeated cold starts
What you can do
- 1First investigate the other fault codes that affect camshaft control or the camshaft reset valve
- 2Check that the fuel level is adequate and that the engine oil level is correct
- 3Check the crankcase ventilation for blockages
- 4Check the spark plug on cylinder four
- 5Check the intake system for leaks
- 6Have a workshop measure the compression on cylinder four if the other checks show nothing
Symptoms you may notice4
- Engine warning lamp lit
- The engine misfires
- The engine is difficult to start
- Uneven idle
What the fault can affect2
- Rear oxygen sensor control is switched off
- Lambda control is switched off
