What does this fault code mean?
The control module treats it as a fault when the signal from the engine speed sensor is missing, or when the speed signal is lower than the one from the camshaft sensor, and sets the code. The cause may be an open or short circuit in the wiring, poor contact, or a damaged sensor or trigger plate.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal or ground wire
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground or supply voltage
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Damaged engine speed sensor
- Damaged carrier plate
What you can do
- 1Check that the speed sensor connector is firmly seated and free from oxidation
- 2Check the signal wire for open circuit and for short circuit to ground and supply voltage
- 3Check the carrier plate for damage
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fault status with the engine running and see whether the fault is active
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the engine speed sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine does not start
- The engine stops
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses the camshaft position sensor signal if the camshaft position sensor has been adapted
