What does this fault code mean?
The engine misfires in several cylinders, which increases exhaust emissions. The control module checks whether the misfire is in one cylinder or several and sets the code for each cylinder affected.
Possible causes
- Low fuel level in the tank
- Repeated cold starts that stop the engine warming up between starts
- Contaminated or incorrect fuel
- Moisture or flashover at the spark plug wells
- Incorrect camshaft control
- Uneven compression in the engine
What you can do
- 1Check that there is fuel in the tank and that the engine oil level is correct
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the misfire counters and see whether more than one cylinder stands out
- 3Check that there is no moisture in the spark plug wells or on the coil connectors
- 4Check that the crankcase ventilation is not blocked and that the intake does not leak air
- 5Stored camshaft control codes should be diagnosed first
- 6Have a workshop measure fuel pressure and compression with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine misfires
- Hard starting
- Uneven idle
- Several cylinders are not firing
- Malfunction indicator (emissions lamp) is lit
