What does this fault code mean?
The control module checks the signal line to the cylinder 1 ignition coil. The code identifies ignition coil 1 and is set when no signal reaches the coil's primary winding.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged ignition coil
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connector at ignition coil 1 is fully seated and free from oxidation
- 3Look for chafing, breaks or pinched sections on the wire to ignition coil 1
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire to coil 1 has continuity
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check coil 1 with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice2
- Malfunction indicator (emissions lamp) is lit
- Cylinder 1 does not fire properly
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
