What does this fault code mean?
The control module checks the signal wire to ignition coil 1 and sets the code when the signal is too low. The code identifies ignition coil 1 and therefore concerns the signal to that coil.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Damaged ignition coil
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connector at ignition coil 1 is fully seated and free from oxidation
- 3Look for chafing on the wire to ignition coil 1 where it may rest against the body
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire has no contact with ground
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the ignition coil with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice2
- Malfunction indicator (emissions lamp) is lit
- Cylinder 1 is not igniting reliably
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
