What does this fault code mean?
The control module checks the signal to ignition coil 3 and sets the code when it is too high. The code identifies ignition coil 3.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged ignition coil
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Check that the connector at ignition coil 3 is secure and clean
- 3Look for chafing or pinched sections on the wire to ignition coil 3
- 4Use a multimeter to check whether the wire to coil 3 touches battery positive
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the coil with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice2
- Malfunction indicator (emissions lamp) is lit
- The engine does not fire on every cylinder
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
