What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has detected that cylinder 5 is misfiring, and the misfire affects exhaust emissions. It detects the misfire by following the speed changes of the crankshaft at each revolution. The cause can be damaged injection valves, contaminated or incorrect fuel, or uneven or poor compression in the cylinder.
Possible causes
- Injection valves that are damaged
- Contaminated or wrong fuel
- Uneven or poor compression in the cylinder
What you can do
- 1Check that the correct fuel has been filled and that no wrong fuel has been used
- 2Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 3Check the spark plug in cylinder 5 for damage to the insulation
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the misfire counter for cylinder 5 at idle and see whether it rises
- 5Have a workshop check the injection valves and the cylinder compression with diagnostic equipment
