What does this fault code mean?
Cylinder 6 is misfiring, and the misfire affects emissions. The fault is permanent, so it is active right now. The engine control module sets the code for that cylinder, and the cause can be fuel, ignition or crankcase ventilation, but air leaks and uneven compression can also give the same fault.
Possible causes
- Low fuel level
- Contaminated or faulty fuel
- Air leakage
- Blocked crankcase ventilation
- Damaged VVT unit
- Blocked or leaking injector
What you can do
- 1Read and note that the code refers to cylinder 6, clear it and road test
- 2Check the engine oil level
- 3Check the spark plug in cylinder 6 for damage to the insulation
- 4Look for air leaks in the intake system and make sure the hoses are secure
- 5Codes for camshaft control or the camshaft reset valve should be troubleshot before cylinder 6
- 6Have a workshop check the fuel pressure and compression with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine misfires
- The engine is hard to start
- Performance is worse than normal
- Idle is uneven
- Not every cylinder is firing
What the fault can affect3
- Catalytic converter diagnosis is switched off
- Leak diagnosis is switched off
- Rear oxygen sensor control is switched off
