What does this fault code mean?
The engine does not stop straight away when the ignition is switched off, because engine speed does not fall as quickly as it should. The code is set when the speed has not dropped far enough within a set time after switch-off. The cause can be oil leaking from the crankcase into the intake, or a faulty engine control module.
Possible causes
- Oil leaking from the crankcase into the intake system
- Faulty engine control module
What you can do
- 1Check that the engine oil level is not above the maximum mark on the dipstick
- 2Check the oil condition, since very dirty oil can block the ventilation channels
- 3Check that the hoses to the oil trap are not blocked and that the oil trap itself is clean
- 4Look for internal dirt in the intake manifold
- 5Have a workshop check engine compression and crankcase ventilation with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine cannot be switched off
- The engine does not stop immediately when the ignition is switched off
