What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has found that the signal from the ignition coil for cylinder 1 is missing. Without a control signal the coil cannot fire its spark reliably, so cylinder 1 can misfire. The fault may lie in poor contact, a break in the wire or in the ignition coil itself.
Possible causes
- Poor contact in the connectors
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged ignition coil
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector at ignition coil 1 is fully seated and dry and clean
- 2Look for chafing or pinch damage on the signal wire from the coil
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire has no break, with the connector unplugged at the coil
- 4Read and clear the code, then road test
- 5If the wire is intact: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the ignition coil
Symptoms you may notice2
- Malfunction indicator lamp is on
- Not every cylinder is firing
