What does this fault code mean?
The ignition coil for cylinder 1 receives a signal that is too high, according to the engine control module. The fault concerns the signal wire between the control module and the coil, which may be short-circuited to supply voltage. The coil may then be controlled incorrectly, and the fault stays until the wire or the coil has been dealt with.
Possible causes
- The signal cable has a short to supply voltage
- Damaged ignition coil
What you can do
- 1Check that the connectors to ignition coil 1 and to the control module are fully seated
- 2Follow the cable from the coil and look for chafing, kinks or pinch damage
- 3Check that the cable is not trapped between metal parts or bent sharply
- 4Read the code, note that it refers to ignition coil 1, clear it and road test
- 5If the fault remains: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the ignition coil and the wiring
Symptoms you may notice2
- Malfunction indicator lamp is lit
- Cylinder 1 is not working as it should
