What does this fault code mean?
Ignition coil 1 sends a signal that is too low to the engine control module, which can make cylinder 1 misfire. The fault may be a short-circuit to ground in the signal cable or a damaged ignition coil. The code belongs to cylinder 1 and to the coil that serves it.
Possible causes
- Ground fault in the signal cable
- Damaged ignition coil
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector to ignition coil 1 is clean and fully seated
- 2Look at the signal cable for chafing or pinch damage, especially where it passes edges or clips
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable to the coil has no contact with ground (the body), with the connector unplugged at the coil
- 4Read and clear the code, then road test
- 5If the cable is intact: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the ignition coil
Symptoms you may notice2
- Malfunction indicator lamp is lit
- Cylinder 1 does not fire properly
